ARM Selects Mentor Graphics XRAY Technology to Power All Future Software Debugging Solutions

SAN JOSE, Calif., Sept. 25 -- Mentor Graphics Corp.(Nasdaq: MENT) and ARM (LSE:ARM; Nasdaq: ARMHY) today announced that ARM has licensed Mentor's XRAY® debugger technology for use in future ARM Developer Suite(TM) (ADS) software solutions. The advanced XRAY debug technology will form the backbone of a powerful environment for the fast and efficient development of ARM Powered(TM) system-on-chip (SoC) applications.

ADS is a proven design solution that provides software engineers with everything they need to rapidly develop applications for devices based on the ARM® architecture. With the incorporation of the XRAY technology, which includes industry-leading real-time debug capabilities, ARM will be able to provide system developers with a complete solution for multi-core (multi-ARM core and DSP) designs, which are key in applications including networking and next-generation wireless solutions.

Allant Software, who also licensed XRAY technology for their ASPEX debugger, was recently acquired by ARM (``ARM Acquires Allant Software'' -- Sept. 20, 2000).

``The acquisition of Allant brings ARM a leading-edge debugger based on the XRAY technology,'' said Warren East, vice president of operations. ``With the integration of this technology into our development system solution, we will now be able to provide a complete development and debug environment for mixed-architecture, multi-processor system-on-chip designs.''

ARM's next-generation ADS solutions, that incorporate the XRAY technology, will be available in 2001. Mentor Graphics and ARM will work together to ensure that releases of XRAY through the next year will be fully compatible with ARM's next-generation ADS solution.

``Mentor Graphics has long been a valuable partner of ARM,'' said Robin Saxby, chairman, president and chief executive officer for ARM. ``Extending the relationship by licensing the XRAY technology will allow us to continue to meet the growing needs of today's complex multi-core designs''.

``The ARM licensing agreement validates our position as the leading technology provider for the development and debug of multi-core SoC designs,'' said Walden Rhines, president and chief executive officer of Mentor Graphics. ``Through our Embedded Software Division, we're committed to partnering with the major embedded microprocessor companies to create highly-integrated software solutions that enable faster time-to-market for our customers.''

About XRAY

Mentor Graphics' industry-leading XRAY debugger significantly reduces the amount of time needed to identify and resolve problems in multi-core SoC applications. It provides a common debugger interface for all stages of the embedded development process and supports all phases of embedded software for SoC design, including simulation, integration and hardware/software co-verification. Through the Mentor Graphics Seamless® Co-Verification Environment (CVE)(TM), the XRAY debugger can be used to develop software and hardware in parallel, allowing users to verify system-level software, such as startup code and device drivers, against a gate-level simulation of the target hardware. Application development can proceed even when no hardware is available by using the XRAY debugger with an Instruction Set Simulator. When connected to the final target hardware via the JTAG interface, the XRAY debugger can provide complete control over the processor, with zero target intrusion, ensuring rapid project completion and shortened time to market.
